What did you coat the paper towels with?

first i've dipped paper towels into water-dilluted white glue, so they could stay on where i put them.

after it dried, i've used several layers of textile hardener
then gesso as base coat

i've used modelling paste at some places, where it was too obviously seen that it's actually a paper towel, and where there are gaps

then i've airbrushed the whole thing

I have never heard of textile hardener what brand name does it go by?

I build a lot of terrain too but I have barely started using paper towels in watered down PVA/ white glue. On my Genosian Spire I used a lot of spackle over wire screening and foam, I used to make most of my gaming terrain out of high density insulation foam and hot wire foam cutter. I'm truly impressed on how real you terrain looks.

At 1st I thought you meant Starch like what people use to help iron clothes. I see by the link its something entirely different. Thank you for your help.

actually, this is not the best method.
plaster is the obvious choice here.

you dip your towels into plaster and that's that.

but i didn't have any at the moment, and i wanted to try that textile hardener stuff.
